Our charity foundation hosts a 12 week feeding program for hungry children to restore them to healthy weight. Our program operates in 2 phases;
- Phase 1: Weight Gain Diet
We feed the children high-calorie, nutritious meals consisting of items like chicken, fish, pork, rice, fruits and vegetables. Our menu is high in vitamins and calories. We don’t feed the children any rice-porridge or cheap, processed foods.
We use NFA (National Food Authority) iron fortified rice, because they offer it at very affordable bulk rates to charitable organizations such as ours. We buy the food from local markets, so the local farming economy is also helped. Phase 1 lasts for 4 weeks, unless a specific child needs more time in this phase.
- Phase 2: Weight Maintenance
The next 8 weeks of our feeding program for children follows the same menu in smaller portions, to maintain their weight without pushing them into the overweight category. This is crucial to the feeding program because if we simply restored them to weight and moved on, the children would return to malnourished status.
